3 MANDIRI Coordinators Arrested During Peaceful Protest in Front of Azam Baki at PWTC
On 7 April 2026, Hamdin Nordin, Peko, and Ahsanul Akmal were arrested after staging a peaceful protest in front of MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki at PWTC, calling for an independent investigation into the alleged corporate mafia network and Azam Baki's shareholding scandal. They were detained for two nights at Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD Dang Wangi), where hundreds of friends, activists and comrades gathered outside in solidarity throughout their detention.
Pesta Perlawanan Anak Muda, MANDIRI's annual flagship event, brings together youth activists, artists and civil society to celebrate resistance, solidarity and progressive ideas. Through performances, discussions and exhibitions, the festival strengthens movement solidarity and fosters a vibrant culture of activism. The 2025 edition also marked MANDIRI's first anniversary, celebrating one year of building a progressive youth movement.
Pesta Perlawanan Anak Muda 2025
Kongres Anak Muda dan Mahasiswa 2025
The Kongres Anak Muda & Mahasiswa united youth and student leaders from across Malaysia to discuss pressing national issues, exchange ideas and build stronger collaboration. It served as a platform for developing shared strategies and strengthening the future of youth organising.
Sekolah Mawar
Sekolah Mawar is MANDIRI's flagship political education programme, equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and values to become effective organisers and advocates for social change. Since its launch, we have organised six editions of Sekolah Mawar across 2025 and 2026. We also introduced Sekolah Mawar Perempuan, a dedicated programme to empower and encourage more young women to take active roles in activism and movement-building.
Standing with Kampung Jalan Papan:Â
Two MANDIRI Coordinators Arrested
During the Kampung Jalan Papan demolition operations in November 2025, Wong Kueng Hui and Muhammad Fakrurrazzi "Peko" Khairur Rijal were arrested while peacefully defending residents from forced eviction. MANDIRI joined the solidarity action organised by Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), standing alongside the community in support of their right to adequate housing and due process. They were detained overnight, while fellow activists and supporters gathered outside IPD Klang Selatan in solidarity until their release.
Tangkap Azam Baki Protest 1.0 & 2.0
Together with a coalition of civil society organisations, MANDIRI co-organised the Tangkap Azam Baki 1.0 and 2.0 protests on 15 February and 25 April 2026, demanding an independent investigation into Azam Baki's shareholding scandal and the alleged corporate mafia network. The sustained public pressure generated by the campaign culminated in the government announcing, on the morning of the second protest, that Azam Baki's tenure as MACC Chief Commissioner would not be extended.
Building International Solidarity
MANDIRI believes that the struggle for democracy and human rights extends beyond national borders. We organised solidarity visits to Indonesia in April 2025 and Thailand in July 2026 to strengthen relationships with youth movements and civil society organisations across Southeast Asia. We also organised more than five solidarity actions in front of the Embassy of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur, supporting Indonesia's August 2025 democracy protests and demanding the release of our comrades from Lokataru who were arrested during the demonstrations. Through these initiatives, MANDIRI continues to build regional solidarity and strengthen cooperation among progressive movements.
Memorandum to Parliament on Drug Law Reform
On 22 January 2026, MANDIRI joined a coalition of civil society organisations in submitting a memorandum to Parliament calling for comprehensive reforms to Malaysia's drug laws. During the peaceful memorandum handover, participants reported that police officers provoked demonstrators and used abusive language, highlighting ongoing concerns over the treatment of peaceful assemblies.
Commemorating 10 Years of #TangkapNajib Rally
In August 2025, MANDIRI commemorated the 10th anniversary of the historic #TangkapNajib rally, honouring one of Malaysia's most significant youth-led anti-corruption movements. The event brought together activists, organisers and civil society leaders to reflect on the legacy of the movement, celebrate those who stood up against corruption, and discuss the future of democratic activism in Malaysia. The commemoration reaffirmed the importance of citizen action in demanding accountability and defending democratic values.
Demonstration & Memorandum to Parliament to Repeal Draconian Laws
On 9 July 2025, MANDIRI joined a coalition of civil society organisations in a demonstration outside Parliament demanding the repeal of draconian laws. The demonstration concluded with the submission of a memorandum urging Parliament to repeal the Sedition Act 1948 and amend the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 in line with constitutional freedoms and democratic reform.
MANDIRIÂ Raya Open House 2026
On 4 April 2026, MANDIRI Raya Open House brought together more than 500 friends, activists and comrades for a festive Hari Raya celebration filled with food, performances and good company. It was simply a day to celebrate, reconnect and enjoy Raya together.
Anti-AUKUÂ Advocacy
Through our partner Liga Mahasiswa Malaysia (the Student League), MANDIRI supported the student-led campaign to repeal the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU) through protests, memorandums, forums, debates and public mobilisation. On 15 August 2026, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government would repeal AUKU, marking a historic victory for students and democratic space after 55 years of resistance against the law. While repeal is not the end goal, together with our friends and partners, we will continue working towards the broader struggle for genuine student autonomy and academic freedom.
Jelajah #TangkapAzamBaki
Ahead of the #TangkapAzamBaki 2.0 rally on 25 April 2026, MANDIRI and fellow organisers took the campaign on the road through Penang, Kelantan and Johor, before concluding with a full-house Grand Finale at KLSCAH in Kuala Lumpur. The Jelajah aimed to raise public awareness about the allegations surrounding Azam Baki and mobilise Malaysians to join the rally and demand greater accountability from the country's anti-corruption institutions.
Advocacy For Palestine
MANDIRI is unapologetically pro-Palestine. We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people by supporting protests, campaigns and advocacy efforts led by the pro-Palestine movement. Rumah MANDIRI also serves as a space for activists and solidarity groups to meet, prepare campaign materials and strengthen their advocacy for Palestine.
